Subject: Inconvenience Caused By Poor Road Condition

Sir:

The road leading to our school is very congested and full of patholes. At some places the road is fully damaged. It is full of pits. Due to these pits, heavy vehicles get imbalanced and overturn. During the rainy season, the situation becomes the worst. Students and parents are often caught in a traffic jam. We get late daily. In spite of several notes, the MCD has not done anything to improve the condition of the road. We wish that this road must be of at least three lanes. There is enough open space on both sides of the road. If the road is widened it will be a book for the students.

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper I, on behalf of the residents of the area, appeal to the MCD authorities to relieve us of the inconvenience. we have been facing for so many weeks. Our children, elderly, and other people are getting hurt every day, not to mention the harassment we are constantly facing. Kindly either repair the road or have it laid anew. I hope you will seriously look into the matter. Thanking you.

Yours truly,
Saurabh

Sir,
This is to bring to your notice the government’s decision to cut down trees in Delhi University area to provide space for Rugby field for the National Games which are going to take place in the month of December, 20XX.

Delhi, over the years, has seen lot of cutting of trees due to developmental activities. It is a known fact that Delhi is one the highly polluted cities of the world today and there is a drastic increase in upper respiratory problems in children in the last few years. In view of all these concerns, it is very insensitive of the government to plan the Rugby field compromising on people’s health.

As India’s leading newspaper, I urge you to write about it in your newspaper and propagate it so the government would change its decision. As a concerned citizen, I assure you of my complete assistance in this time of need.

Sub: Skyrocketing prices of essential commodities.

Sir:
I am writing to you to express my deep concern over the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities which is making the life of the common people very difficult. The Government has failed miserably in its promise of keeping the inflation low. The prices of essential commodities such as pulses, vegetables, cereals, cooking oil, sugar, rice, and petrol, etc. have been rising unrelentingly.

The Government’s all measure to bring the prices down have failed. I just want to ask the concerned ministry and authorities what is happening. The poor are still grinding, and the rich are having a gala luxurious life! Why does the Government not put a reign on inflation? Why the Government PDS is is such a big failure? See the paradox! On one hand we have food grains worth millions of rupees rotting in the FCI godown,  and on the other hand the poor and the middle classes of our country not getting the food grains and pulses at reasonable price.

Why does the Government not make these food grains and pulses available to the common people. Once the Government will supply these food items into the market, the prices will automatically go down. Besides the Government needs to act strictly against the hoarding and black-marketing of food items.

Through the columns of your esteemed daily I appeal to the concerned ministry to look into the matter and take steps to alleviate people’s troubles.

Thanking you,
Yours truly,
Manish

Subject : Need to combat the increasing stress faced by students.

Respected Sir,

I wish to bring to your notice the fact that students are facing a lot of stress nowadays. A look at their huge school bags itself gives us an idea of their burden. At their age learning should be a joy and not a burden. Their inquisitive minds should be enriched by education.

Education should help them to express their latent talents. But nowadays the curriculum is such that bookish knowledge is given more importance. Students are burdened with homework and do not get any time to develop other skills. Sports are neglected. Even during holidays they are expected to do a large amount of holiday homework.

Examinations are considered to be very important. The huge syllabus to be learnt for the examinations is a nightmare for students.

The system of education should be reformed and equal importance should be given to classwork and homework. Examinations should not be the only criteria of assessment. Practical work and other activities should be given due importance. There should be a Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation of their performance.

I will be very grateful, if you could promote awareness about these problems and work for the implementation of suitable measures to get rid of them.

Yours Sincerely
Vidya

You are Arun/Anita Nandi and you are concerned about the lack of safety precautions taken by the members of your locality in the context of the COVID-19 situation. Subject: Importance of adhering to COVID-19 precautions

Sir/Madam,
I would like to draw the attention of the authorities and the people through the esteemed column of your newspaper about the importance of adhering to COVID-19 precautions in today’s current tumultuous situation. Recently, the Government has declared a
complete lockdown in the State and recommended that the movement of people should be restricted to the purchase of essential items.

However, today, people were moving about without observing the requisite distance and without masks. Moreover, jaywalkers on the road were jostling people. People in my locality were happily jogging and taking their walks in the garden without realising the harm that they were in and the risk that they put others in while other localities have enabled measures to keep such activities in check and arranged for essential services to be delivered right at the gate. Therefore, there is a safe amount of distance and precautions in place to prevent the contamination and spread of the virus. We have also received the news that due to such negligent activities, in a locality two lanes away, a family has caught the virus leading to a complete closure of the building premises.

I believe that we should take a stand and adopt healthy practices before we succumb to the virus itself. It is necessary for the locality to encourage people to step out only when necessary and devise curbs to prevent them from leaving their houses. Online exercise classes can be facilitated for those needing to exercise while masks and sanitizers should be distributed to encourage people to adopt healthy measures. The local authorities should also strictly issue such warnings to the locality such that the concerned society leaders enforce such safety measures.

Yours sincerely,
Arun/Anita Nandi

You are Rakshit/Rachna Tiwari, resident of A-24, Mayur Vihar, Delhi. You read about participation of children in various reality shows on TV and are perturbed about the exploitation of these children. Write a letter to the editor of a national daily showing your concern about involving children in reality shows and TV serials mentioning how it impacts their education and progress. (100–120 words)

Subject: Concern about the participation of children in reality shows.

Sir/Madam,
Reality shows involving children as young as 4 years, have become a common feature on television today. These shows garner high
TRPs and have been very popular amongst people of all ages.
Although reality shows have a few positive outcomes, the participation of children should be discouraged because the intense competition exhibited by the children requires constant practice for long hours which is not healthy for them. Besides this, most of the children put their academics on the back burner. Another compelling reason is that children are immature and emotionally vulnerable, so any negative remark from the judges could affect their confidence and self-esteem also. Fame and money can also act as a spoiler for these young children, who find them very difficult to handle and later
go into depression when they are unable to maintain it. Even if they participate the children should be regularly counselled and made emotionally strong to handle all situations.
I hope my article would find some space in your esteemed newspaper and convince the people to act accordingly.

Yours truly,
Rakshit /Rachna Tiwari

Subject: Expressing concern about the over dependence of today’s youth on the Internet

Sir,
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I wish to highlight the problem of growing dependence of today’s youth on the Internet.
The Internet is a store of knowledge, which is available to us with just a click of the button. However, often, the information on the Internet is not always factually correct. Also, the Internet sometimes exposes the youth to information and opinions that are inappropriate. Very often, there are videos posted on the Internet. These just pop up on their own. They contain information which is misleading and any non-discerning person can set swayed by what the video is trying to propagate.
I hope that today’s youth understand how they should use the Internet as a tool to empower themselves and not let it make them go astray.

Yours truly
Ashish

Subject: Deteriorating law and order situation in the city

Sir/Madam,

Through this letter I wish to draw the attention of the authorities, towards the deteriorating law and order situation in the city.

Incidents of theft, kidnapping, molestation, rape, and murder are on the rise these days. A person walking on the street or at home, whatever the age or gender, is unsafe.

Just the other day, there was a report in the newspaper about an old lady who was attacked by teenage children. They pushed her off the path and snatched her shopping bags. She had a bad fall and received a cut on her forehead, which had to be closed with stitches. Later, the children were rounded up by the authorities. The search revealed that the old lady often told that particular set of children not to make a lot of noise while playing near her place. She, being old, is a light sleeper and her noon siesta usually got disturbed when the children played noisily nearby.

It is time that the authorities apply laws more effectively to curb this lawlessness, so that the common man can live in peace.

Yours sincerely
Rizwan Ali

Subject: Inadequate and contaminated water supply.

Sir

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the civic authorities to the contaminated and inadequate supply of water in our locality.

It is unfortunate that the local civic authorities do not take care to provide the citizens with even the basic amenities such as proper and adequate water supply. In our locality, water is supplied only for three hours in the morning.

For the rest of the day the taps remain dry. Also, the supplied water is impure. It is unhygienic and inadequate. There have been cases of water borne diseases. The water borne diseases may break out in the form of epidemic, if the problem is not properly addressed to.

It is expected that instead of ignoring the issue, the authorities concerned will take immediate steps to ensure supply of adequate and potable water in our locality so that we residents are able to live a disease free and healthy life.

Yours truly
Saurabh Srivastava

Sir
I am Ravi, a student of class 12, Laxmi Public School, Dhanbad. I am writing this letter with deep concern about the poor condition of roads in metropolitan cities. During the rainy season, there is water logging everywhere, which makes life difficult for the commuters to walk ride a bicycle or drive a car.

It is extremely dangerous for the people to come out of their houses during the rainy season as there are potholes on the roads which further lead to accidents. Not only have accidents become a concern, but also the risk due to the spread of various diseases like dengue, chikungunya, etc.

An awareness must be created about this condition. The concerned authorities should take action in this regard. Media is one of the most powerful tools these days. I hope you will consider my request and take action in this regard.
