Article The Uses with Dates
Use -1. When we say a specific date, we use Article THE, but when we write it, we don’t use Article THE:
Examples:
Speaking: I will see you on the twenty fifth of May.’
Writing: I will see you on 25th May.
Speaking: The concert is scheduled for the third of November.
Writing: The concert is scheduled for November 3rd.
Speaking: Let’s meet on the second of September.
Writing: Let’s meet on 2nd September.
Speaking: She was born on the eighth of December.
Writing: She was born on 8th December.
Speaking: I have a meeting on the fourteenth of June.
Writing: I have a meeting on June 14th. (Other way to write date)
Use – 2. When we talk about months, we don’t use Article THE:
Examples:
1. My birthday is in September.
2. May is my favourite month of all.
3. My vacation is in July.
4. November brings cooler weather.
5. The conference is scheduled for March.
6. She is planning a trip in April.
7. The festival is held in October.
Use – 3. When we talk about seasons in general, we can use either IN or IN THE. IN without THE is often used in more formal or literary contexts or when ‘SEASON‘ word is added to it.
Examples:
1. These birds arrive in India in summer, and leave as the winter begins.
2. In the summer season, we usually go to Manali.
3. We rarely get snow in the winter.
4. In winter, the days are shorter, and the nights are colder.
5. We love to go hiking in the spring.
6. The flowers bloom beautifully in the spring.
7. Skiing is a popular activity in the winter.
8. In the summer, the beaches are crowded with tourists.
9. I enjoy cozy evenings by the fireplace in the winter season.
10. In the autumn, the trees shed their leaves.
Use – 4. When we talk about a specific season, we use Article THE:
Examples:
1. The winter of 1947 was one of the coldest in Britain.
2. Well definitely visit you in the summer. (meaning next summer)
3. The spring of 2020 brought unexpected challenges due to the global pandemic.
4. The autumn of my childhood was filled with the aroma of freshly fallen leaves.
5. I’m looking forward to the spring; it’s my favorite time of the year.
6. The winter of 1776 was particularly harsh for George Washington’s army at Valley Forge.
