Subject-Verb Agreement | Grammar Rules

Hello, students in this post you will learn the rules of Subject-Verb Agreement | Grammar Rules. In this post (Part-4), I have covered from Rule number 8 to Rule number 14. Read All the Rules Carefully

Rule No. 8:-  If the subject of a sentence is ‘Either’ or ‘Neither’ the verb used with it should be singular because it denotes only one at a time.

यदि किसी वाक्य का Subject ’Either’ या ‘Neither’ है, तो उसके साथ प्रयोग होने वाली Verb Singular Number में होनी चाहिए क्योंकि यह एक समय में केवल एक ही Noun को बताती है।

Ex. There are two books here and I think either are good. (✘)

There are two books here and I think either is good. (✔)

She has taught two students but neither have got good marks. (✘)

She has taught two students but neither has got good marks. (✔)

Rule No. 9:-  The noun or pronoun used after ‘Each of, Either of, and Neither of’ is Plural but the verb should be Singular.

‘Each of, Either of, and Neither of’ के बाद Noun या Pronoun Plural होता है लेकिन Verb Singular Number में होता है।

Ex. Neither of these two students are good at speaking English. (✘)

Neither of these two students is good at speaking at English. (✔)

Each of us want to learn advanced English. (✘)

Each of us wants to learn advanced English. (✔)

Either of you have done nothing yet. (✘)

Either of you has done nothing yet. (✔)

Rule No. 10:-  The Singular countable noun is used after ‘Each, Every, Either, and Neither’ and the verb is also Singular.

‘Each, Every, Either, and Neither’ के बाद Noun और Verb दोनों Singular Number में प्रयोग होता है।

Ex. Each boys have got good marks. (✘)

Each boy has got good marks. (✔)

Every rules are important in English grammar. (✘)

Every rule is important in English grammar. (✔)

Either ways go to the Railway station. (✘)

Either way goes to the Railway station. (✔)

Rule No. 11:-  If the subject of a sentence is ‘Somebody, anybody, everybody, nobody, someone, anyone, everyone, no one, Nothing, something, anything, everything,’ the verb must be in the singular number.

यदि किसी वाक्य का Subject ‘Somebody, anybody, everybody, nobody, someone, anyone, everyone, no one, Nothing, something, anything, everything,’ हो तो Verb हमेशा Singular Number में प्रयोग होता है।

Ex. Somebody have told me about you. (✘)

Somebody has told me about you. (✔)

Nothing are in my favour nowadays. (✘)

Nothing is in my favour nowadays. (✔)

Everybody have right to say anything in this world. (✘)

Everybody has right to say anything in this world. (✔)

Rule No. 12:-  Plural Noun and Plural Verb are used after ‘Many, A great many and A good many’.

‘Many, A great many and A good many’ के बाद Plural Noun तथा Plural Verb का प्रयोग होता है।

Ex. Many student whom I taught has got good marks. (✘)

Many students whom I taught have got good marks. (✔)

A great many player are coming here to take part in the match. (✘)

A great many players are coming here to take part in the match. (✔)

A good many author has been invited to this inauguration party. (✘)

A good many authors have been invited to this inauguration party. (✔)

Rule No. 13:-  But Many + a / an takes singular countable noun and a singular verb.

लेकिन Many + A / An के बाद Noun तो Singular Number में होता है लेकिन Verb Singular Number में क्योंकि यहाँ Noun Singular Number में होता है।

Ex. Many a girls are coming here to take part in dance competition. (✘)

Many a girl is coming here to take part in dance competition. (✔)
