Noise Pollution Essay For All Exams
This essay Noise Pollution Essay For All Exams is for class 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 & all competitive exams. We have written our Essay on Noise Pollution in English keeping in mind all the aspects of noise pollution.
Sound is that element which we perceive through our ears. Sound is produced by the vibration of an object. The intensity of sound is called noise. Many serious diseases have been born out of this invisible pollution.
In 1972 , the United Nations recognized unbearable noise as a part of pollution. Noise pollution has emerged as a serious problem due to rapidly increasing population, urbanization and traffic and its ill-effects not only on humans but also on animals, birds and plants.
Noise pollution is not a modern problem. 2500 years ago, the people of the old Greek colony called Cyber knew about the method of controlling noise. He made laws for safe sleep so that the citizens there can take peaceful sleep. Julius Caesar also banned loud noises and the movement of chariots that made noise at night.
Noise Pollution Essay For All Exams
Preface :-
Noise pollution is also another form of environmental pollution. Sound can be classified as noise. Even if this noise tomorrow is from factories, trains or other vehicles, loudspeakers and utensils in kitchens. It is clear that noise is noise in every area. Noise may be a simple phenomenon, but its serious and adverse effect on our physical and mental health continues to read.
According to Nobel laureate scientist Robert Kak , “A day will come when man will have to contend with noise as the worst enemy of health.” In fact, noise pollution is the intensity of noise or noise.
The unit of measurement of the intensity of sound is the decibel. It has been known by various surveys and studies that 100 decibels of noise has an adverse effect on the health of a person . Some scientists believe that the sound of 85 decibel intensity for a continuous long time has adverse effects on health. Keeping this fact in mind, various countries have set the noise limit between 75 decibels and 85 decibels . Sound of higher intensity than this is considered as noise pollution .
Definition of noise pollution :-
“Noise is such a sound which a person finds undesirable and affects his efficiency.”
According to Jay Tiffin
“Noise is an undesirable sound, which increases fatigue and causes deafness in certain industrial conditions.”
According to Huttle
All Exams Essay on Noise Pollution
What is noise pollution?
Sound acts as waves. When the amount of energy in sound waves exceeds the requirement, then due to the spread of fuel waves, mental disturbance and other diseases start to spread in all living beings. Noise pollution is pollution that increases the energy of sound waves.
How do you measure noise pollution?
The decibel unit has been prescribed to measure the intensity of sound. Human capacity is very sensitive to sound waves ranging from 30 Hz to 20,000 Hz , but not all sound is heard by humans. Deci means 10 and the word “bell” is derived from the name of scientist Graham Bell.
Noise Pollution Standards:-
According to a report of the World Health Organization , the noise in the surrounding environment should not exceed 35 decibels during sleep and the daytime noise should not exceed 45 decibels .

Sources of noise pollution or causes of noise pollution :-
(01) Natural sources –
Noise pollution also occurs as a result of natural activities. But natural noise pollution is relatively short-lived and the loss is also less. Under the natural sources of noise, man feels uncomfortable due to thunder of clouds, thunder of lightning, stormy winds etc., but the sound of drops, the tweet of bangles and the phone of rivers, waterfalls also communicates joy in human beings.
(02) Human sources –
Noise caused by human activities has been classified as noise pollution, due to increasing urbanization, mining, the problem of noise is taking a serious form, in fact, noise and human civilization will always be together. Following are the major human sources of noise pollution –
(01) Industry :-
- Almost all industrial areas are affected by noise pollution, the main reason for this is the noise generated by machines running in factories.
- Boilers, turbines installed in thermal power house generate a lot of noise. Most of the industries are established in urban areas, so the intensity of noise pollution is high here.
(02) Means of Transport :-
- Various modes of transport are also one of the major causes of noise pollution. All modes of transport produce more or less noise. The pollution caused by this takes place over a large area.
- In the year 1950, the total number of vehicles in India was 3 million. Today, after 70 years, the total number of vehicles in India has crossed 400 million. The noise pollution caused by these vehicles is very high.
(03) Means of entertainment :-
- Man uses various means for his entertainment. He entertains himself by means like TV, radio, tape recorder, music system but becomes the reason for the loud sound produced by it.
- The use of loudspeakers in programs like marriage engagements, religious events, fairs, parties and the practice of DJ is also the main reason for noise pollution.
(04) Construction work :-
- Noise pollution increases due to the use of different machines and tools in various construction works.
(05) Fireworks :-
- Fireworks used on various occasions in our country are also the main source of noise pollution. Fireworks are a common practice in various festivals and celebrations, fairs, cultural weddings.
- The joy of winning a match or election is also expressed by fireworks. But these fireworks not only cause air pollution, as well as the intensity of the sound waves is also so high, which gives rise to problems like noise pollution.
(06) Other reasons :-
- The intensity of the sound wave is also relatively higher than the conversations of people gathered on the occasion of various social, religious, political rallies, organization of rallies, etc.
- In this way, noise pollution also arises due to the noise of huge population at administrative offices and schools, bus stands, railway stations too.
- In this way, there are many other small reasons which give rise to noise pollution. Like less wide roads, no plan for the seller of goods on the road, more traffic in the over.

Health problems (side effects) due to noise pollution
Noise pollution is a slow death messenger. The adverse effects of noise pollution on humans can be divided into four categories.
- General impression
- Auditory effects
- Psychological effect
- Physical effects
(01) General Effects – The effects of noise pollution on human beings include disturbances in forgetting, irritability, sleep disturbances and their related side effects and problems arising from them.
(02) Hearing-related effects – On the basis of various experiments, it has been known that when the intensity of sound exceeds 90 decibels, then people have different degrees of hearing impairment in the hearing mechanism. Hearing impairment is based on the following factors – the frequency of the imperceptible sound wave to noise and the individual’s sensitivity to noise.
To study the ill effects of increasing noise pollution in Lucknow, research was done on people who spend more than 10 hours continuously for more than 5 years in the midst of noise. It is seen that 55% of the people have reduced hearing power.
(03) Psychological effects- Due to high level of noise pollution, many types of behavioral changes occur in humans. Due to prolonged noise pollution, people do not develop neurotic mental disorder. There is tension and strain in the muscles.
(04) Physiological effects – Due to high noise, human beings suffer from various pathologies and diseases such as – high blood pressure, excitement, heart disease, strain or tension in the pupils of the eyes, muscle strain, disorder in the digestive system, depression, stress ulcers. Like diseases of stomach and intestines etc.
The sudden high sound of explosions and super sonic booms can also cause miscarriage in pregnant women. Malformations arise in newborn babies of women who live in constant noise.
Measures to stop noise pollution or control noise pollution :-
Noise pollution is related to both individual and human community. Therefore, it can be solved at the individual, community and government level. Two aspects can be included in noise pollution prevention programs –
- Reducing the intensity of sound and noise.
- Sound and noise control.
The most effective way to control noise pollution is to control noise at source points only. Some of the measures are being given below –
- Noise pollution can be avoided by planting trees because green plants can reduce the intensity of sound by 10 to 15 decibels. Green belt can be developed in metropolitan areas.
- Pressure horns should be switched off, engines and machines should be continuously repaired. Traffic should be handled in all respects. Make proper planning while creating new areas of cities.
