Confusing Words in English
In this post, there are five commonly confusing pairs of words ‘Confusing Words in English‘ which is very common to be used wrongly. Along with this post, there is also a video attached to this post at the end.
1. BRING OR FETCH?
If one brings something, one carries or moves it to the place where one is. If one fetches something, one goes to the place where it is and return with it:
Example:-
Could you bring your laptop with you?
Could you fetch me a glass of water, please?
2. BORROW, LEND, OR USE?
If you borrow something that belongs to someone else, you use it for a while, then return it. If you lend something you own to someone else, you allow them to use it for a period of time.
You don’t usually talk about borrowing or lending things that can’t move. It is more general to say USE
Example:-
Can I borrow your notebook?
She can lend you some money.
Can I use your washing machine?

3. ASHAMED OR EMBARRASSED?
If you feel ashamed, you feel sorry for a mistake you made. If you’re embarrassed, you’re worried that people will think you’re a fool:
Example:-
She was ashamed to admit she had lied to us.
He felt really embarrassed about singing in public.
4. FIT OR SUIT?
If the clothes fit you, then they are the right size for you. If they suit you, they make you look attractive.
Example:-
This dress fits her perfectly.
You look handsome in that dress – it really suits you.
5. MARRIAGE OR WEDDING?
Marriage refers to the state of being married, or to the relationship of two people who are married.
Wedding is used for the ceremony where two people get married. A marriage ceremony, especially one with a religious service.
Example:-
They had a long and happy marriage.
She invited us in her wedding.
