In informal situations, people often say sorry about …, sorry for doing … or sorry I … rather than asking someone to excuse something:

Patterns with sorry
• You are sorry about something bad that has happened:
I’m sorry about what I said.
I’m sorry about your car (=sorry that your car has been damaged).
• You are sorry for the delay, the inconvenience, or the trouble:

• You are sorry for doing something bad:
I’m sorry for upsetting you.

‘That’ can be omitted:

✗Don’t say: I’m sorry for I can’t come.
• If you are sorry to do something, it makes you sad to do it:

✗Don’t say: I’ll be sorry for leaving this place.
