Games and sports are very important for our mental and physical health. Sports are necessary for our mental and physical development. The children who do not participate in games and sports become dull. Some of the popular sports of our country are cricket, football, hockey, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, chess, etc. But, cricket is my favourite sport. Though cricket can be played in every season, yet it is difficult to play cricket in extreme season specially in summer and rainy season. That’s why cricket matches are generally held in winter season. However, playing cricket in spring season gives us extra pleasure.

Though hockey is our national game, but cricket has become more popular. The excitement of cricket is so high that most of the children want to play cricket. It also attracts the people of all age groups. Some veteran cricketers including Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, Bishan Singh Bedi, Chandrasekhar, etc. and some modern cricketers are Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Mahendra Singh Dhoni are some renowned cricketers of our country. I also want to become a good cricketer. I want to become a batsman.

Cricket is a sport of bat and ball which is played in an open ground. Two teams play cricket together and each team consists of eleven players. The wicketkeeper stands behind the wicket to catch the ball. Out of eleven players some are batsmen whereas some are good bowlers. Some players are good in batting as well as in bowling. They are called allrounders.

Cricket is a sport of power and intelligence. All the fielders remain alert throughout the match. Besides good batting and bowling, fielding is also an important part of this sport. Ricky Ponting of Australia and Yuvraj Singh of India are some renowned fielders.

There are mainly two types of matches are held namely one day matches and test matches. One day matches are limited over matches, generally fifty overs match. In the test matches there is no limitation of overs. It is played for five days. However, o le day matches are full of excitement. To see the popularity of one day matches, the twenty-twenty matches have been introduced. In twenty-twenty match only twenty overs are played by each team. In the first Twenty- Twenty World Cup, India has become the victorious under the captainship of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Indian cricket team is one of the most popular teams of the world. The performance of Indian team has had been overall good. We have already won the World Cup in 1983.

Indian Cricket Board gives a lot of money to Indian cricketers. Cricket has also played a vital role in strengthening national integration. That’s why cricket is my favourite sport.
