In English grammar, TENSE refers to the form of a verb that indicates the time frame in which an action or event takes place. अंग्रेजी व्याकरण में, Tense एक क्रिया के रूप को संदर्भित करता है जो उस समय सीमा को इंगित करता है जिसमें कोई क्रिया या घटना घटित होती है। यह हमें बताता है कि कार्य वर्तमान में हो रहा है, भूतकाल में हुआ है, या भविष्य में होगा।

English Grammar Tenses

There are three main tenses in English:
अंग्रेजी में तीन मुख्य काल हैं:

1. Present tense – It is used to describe actions happening now or actions that are habitual or ongoing.

For example:-
I play tennis every Saturday
मैं हर शनिवार को टेनिस खेलता हूँ।
She is listening to music.
वह संगीत को सुन रही है।

2. Past tense – It is used to describe actions that have already happened.

For example:-
They played tennis yesterday.
उन लोगो ने कल टेनिस खेला था।
Rohan listened to music last night.
रोहन ने पिछली रात संगीत सुना।

3. Future tense – It is used to describe actions that will happen in the future.

For example:-
I will play tennis tomorrow.
मैं कल टेनिस खेलूंगा।
She will see me tonight.
वह आज रात मुझे मिलेगी।

Types of Tenses in English

Each tense can be further divided into different forms or states.
प्रत्येक काल को अलग-अलग रूपों या अवस्थाओं में विभाजित किया जा सकता है।
Such as:-
simple, progressive (continuous), perfect, and perfect progressive.

These different forms allow us to provide more detail about the time frame and duration of the action or event.
ये विभिन्न रूप हमें क्रिया या घटना की समय सीमा और अवधि के बारे में अधिक विवरण प्रदान करने की अनुमति देते हैं।

What is Tense in English and Hindi

1. Simple Present Tense – It is used to describe actions that are generally true or habitual.
इसका उपयोग उन क्रियाओं का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है जो आम तौर पर सही या अभ्यस्त हैं।

For example:-
The sun rises in the east.
सूरज पूरब में उगता है।
I drink coffee every morning.
मैं रोज सुबह कॉफी पीता हूं।

2. Present Progressive Tense – It is used to describe actions that are happening right now or are currently ongoing.
इसका उपयोग उन क्रियाओं का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है जो अभी हो रही हैं या वर्तमान में चल रही हैं।

For example:-
I am having breakfast.
मैं नाश्ता कर रहा हूँ।
He is working on a project.
वह एक प्रोजेक्ट पर काम कर रहे हैं।

3. Present Perfect Tense – It is used to describe actions that happened at an unspecified time in the past or are connected to the present.
इसका उपयोग उन क्रियाओं का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है जो अतीत में अनिर्दिष्ट समय पर हुई थीं या वर्तमान से जुड़ी हुई हैं।

For example:-
They have completed the project on time.
उन्होंने समय पर प्रोजेक्ट पूरा कर लिया है।
She has lived in this city for ten years.
वह इस शहर में दस साल से रह रही है।

4. Present Perfect Progressive Tense – It is used to describe actions that started in the past and continue up to the present or have just finished.
इसका उपयोग उन क्रियाओं का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है जो अतीत में शुरू हुई थीं और वर्तमान तक जारी हैं या अभी-अभी समाप्त हुई हैं।

For example:-
We have been studying since morning.
हम सुबह से पढ़ रहे हैं।
He has been working on her project for five hours.
वह पांच घंटे से अपने प्रोजेक्ट पर काम कर रहा है।

5. Simple Past Tense – It is used to describe actions that started and finished in the past.
इसका उपयोग अतीत में शुरू और समाप्त होने वाली क्रियाओं का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है।

For example:-
She went to Patna yesterday.
वह कल पटना गई थी।
We watched a movie last night.
हमने कल रात एक फिल्म देखी।

6. Past Progressive Tense – It is used to describe an action that was ongoing at a particular time in the past.
इसका उपयोग किसी ऐसी क्रिया का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है जो अतीत में किसी विशेष समय पर चल रही थी।

For example:-
I was having breakfast when the phone rang.
जब फोन बजा तो मैं नाश्ता कर रहा था।
She was going to school when it started to rain.
वह स्कूल जा रही थी कि बारिश शुरू हो गई।

7. Past Perfect Tense – It is used to describe an action that was completed before another action or time in the past.

For example:-
I had already taken my breakfast before my mom arrived.
मेरी माँ के आने से पहले ही मैंने अपना नाश्ता कर लिया था।
He had finished his work before he left.
जाने से पहले वह अपना काम पूरा कर चुका था।

8. Past Perfect Progressive Tense – It is used to describe actions that started in the past and continued up to a point in the past. इसका उपयोग उन क्रियाओं का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है जो अतीत में शुरू हुईं और अतीत में एक बिंदु तक जारी रहीं।

For example:-
Rohan had been studying for two hours when his friend called.
रोहन दो घंटे से पढ़ रहा था कि उसके दोस्त का फोन आया।
He had been working on his project all morning before she took a break.
ब्रेक लेने से पहले पूरी सुबह वह अपने प्रोजेक्ट पर काम कर रहा था।

9. Simple Future Tense – It is used to describe actions that will happen in the future.
इसका उपयोग भविष्य में होने वाली क्रियाओं का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है।

For example:-
He will meet you at the park tomorrow.
वह कल आपसे पार्क में मिलेंगे।
She will start her new job next month.
वह अगले महीने अपना नया काम शुरू करेगी।

You will be studying at this time tomorrow.
कल तुम इसी समय पढ़ रहे होंगे।
He will be working on her project next week.
वह अगले हफ्ते अपने प्रोजेक्ट पर काम करेंगे।

11. Future Perfect Tense – It is used to describe actions that will be completed before a specific time in the future.

For example:-
He will have finished my work by 6 pm.
वह शाम 6 बजे तक मेरा काम समाप्त कर चुका होगा।
My team will have completed the project before the deadline.
मेरी टीम समय सीमा से पहले परियोजना को पूरा कर लेंगे।

12. Future Perfect Progressive Tense – It is used to describe actions that will have been ongoing up to a specific time in the future. इसका उपयोग उन क्रियाओं का वर्णन करने के लिए किया जाता है जो भविष्य में एक विशिष्ट समय तक जारी रहेंगी।

For example:-
I will have been playing for five hours by the time you come.
जब तक तुम आओगे मैं पांच घंटे से खेल रहा होगा।
She will have been working on the project for a week by the deadline.
वह समय सीमा तक एक सप्ताह के लिए परियोजना पर काम कर रही होगी।
