Hello friends, As you know the passive voice is very important section whether you are learning basic English, advanced English or English for any competitive exam mainly SSC CGL, CHSL, MTS, CDS, NDA or spoken English as well. Today I am providing ‘Passive voice practice exercise – 1’ so that you may do practice and learn the rules through a set of ‘Passive voice practice exercises – 1’.

Hints to Solve the below exercise:- 

All the sentences have been given the active voice of present indefinite tense or simple present tense. As you the base form of verb and singular form of verb that is ‘V1/V5‘ is used in this tense. In its passive voice ‘am/is/are+V3‘ is used in the passive voice. Both the structures Active and Passive of present indefinite tense is given below.

Active Voice: Sub + V1/V5 + Obj.

Passive Voice: Obj + am/is/are + V3 + by + Agent

Change the voice of below Sentences. (Active to Passive)

1. We make butter from milk.
[A] Butter is make from milk by us.
[B] Butter is made from milk by us.
[C] Butter is make with milk by us.
[D] From milk butter is made by us.

2. He teaches us grammar.
[A] Grammar was taught to us by him.
[B] We are taught grammar by him.
[C] Grammar will be taught to us by him.
[D] We were teached grammar by him.

3. Dogs always chase cats.
[A] Cats are always chasing dogs.
[B] Cats have been always chased by dogs.
[C] Cats are always chased by dogs.
[D] Cats are being always chased by dogs.

4. Quinine tastes bitter.
[A] Quinine is bitter when it is tasted.
[B] Quinine is bitter tested.
[C] The taste of quinine is bitter.
[D] Quinine is tasted bitter.

5. We are taught English here.
[A] A teacher teaches us English here.
[B] English is taught here.
[C] A lady teaches us English here.
[D] You teach us English here.

6. He doesn’t like people to call him cheat.
[A] He doesn’t like to be called a cheat.
[B] He doesn’t like to be call is a cheat.
[C] He doesn’t like anyone to call him cheat.
[D] To call cheat is not liked by him.

7. Those mangoes smell sweet.
[A] Those mangoes are sweet when they are smell.
[B] Those mangoes are sweet when they are smelt
[C] Those mangoes were sweet when those are smelt.
[D] Sweet are smelt by those mangoes.

8. We expect good news.
[A] Good news is expected by us.
[B] Let good news be expected.
[C] Let us expect good news.
[D] Expecting good news from them.

9. God helps the brave.
[A] The brave is helped by God
[B] The brave are helped by God
[C] The brave are help by God
[D] The brave helped by God

10. I play cricket during my free time.
[A] Cricket are played by me during my free time.
[B] Cricket were played by me during my free time.
[C] Cricket are being played by me during my free time.
[D] Cricket is played by me during my free time.

11. Your manners irritate me.
[A] I am irritated by my manners.
[B] Manners are irritating me.
[C] I am being irritated by your manners.
[D] I am irritated by your manners.

12. It interests me.
[A] I am interested by it.
[B] I am interested in it.
[C] I will be interested in it.
[D] I was interested in it.

13. He opens the door.
[A] The door is opened by him.
[B] The door was opened by him.
[C] The door shall, be opened by him.
[D] The door will be opened by him.

14. Parents love their children.
[A] Children have been loved by their parents.
[B] Children will be loved by their parents.
[C] Children are loved by their parents.
[D] Children are being loved by their parents.

15. Sita learns her lessons daily.
[A] Her lessons is learnt daily by Sita.
[B] Her lessons are learnt daily by Sita.
[C] Her lessons was learnt daily by Sita.
[D] Her lessons were learnt daily by Sita

16. We prohibit smoking.
[A] Smoking is being prohibited.
[B] Smoking has been prohibited.
[C] Smoking will be prohibited.
[D] Smoking is prohibited.

17. They fund schools for girls.
[A] Schools for girls was funded by them.
[B] Schools for girls will be funded by them.
[C] Schools for girls are funded by them.
[D] Schools for girls are being funded by them.

18. My mother bakes cakes.
[A] A cake was baked by my mother.
[B] My mother is baking a cake.
[C] A cake is being baked by my mother.
[D] Cakes are baked by my mother.

19. People in Egypt speak Arabic.
[A] Arabic was spoken by people in Egypt.
[B] Arabic is spoken in Egypt.
[C] In Egypt Arabic is spoken.
[D] Arabic is being spoken by people in Egypt.

20. Who teaches you English?
[A] By whom you are taught English?
[B] By whom English is taught to you?
[C] By whom was you taught English?
[D] By whom are you taught English?
