The Phrases or two words joined by hyphen (-) is called Double-barreled phrases in English. Today I am sharing with you the first part of this series. Learn these 10 important double barreled English words with meaning.

1. PALSY-WALSY (ADJ.)
Meaning:- Friendly, having the relationship of friends / being or appearing to be very intimate
He tried to get palsy-walsy with Rohan, and that was a big mistake.

2. HUBBLE-BUBBLE (NOUN)
Meaning:- A simple form of the hookah, in which the smoke passes through water, causing a bubbling sound, confused talk
I have bought a new hubble-bublle.

3. FLIP-FLOP (VERB)
Meaning:- A sudden or unexpected reversal, as of direction, belief, attitude, or policy.
He has been criticized for flip-flopping on several key issues.

4. TEENSY-WEENSY (ADJ.)
Meaning:- Very small / Tiny
Her speech was teensy-weensy.

5. TITTLE-TATTLE (NOUN)
Meaning:- GOSSIP, PRATTLE, unimportant talk, usually not true, about other people and their lives
She always indulge herself in tittle-tattle.

Meaning:- In a haphazard or spontaneous manner

7. ROLY-POLY (ADJ.)
Meaning:- short, round and fat
The mechanic was roly-poly.

8. ITTY-BITTY (ADJ.) / ITSY-BITSY
Meaning:- unimportant, extremely small, TINY
All I’m asking for is one little itty-bitty bite.

9. HOITY-TOITY (ADJ.)
Meaning:- Arrogant – Behaving as if you are better or more important than other people
His boss is hoity-toity.

10. FLIMFLAM (VERB)
Meaning:- to deceive; trick; swindle; cheat
Their talk was flimflam, so I didn’t understand anything.
